The Ourense-Santiago high-speed section will rely on Invensys Rail Dimetronic signalling and control technology

The company will supply its systems for railway control and signalling in the first section of the high-speed line that will link Galicia to Madrid.

06/08/2010

Invensys Rail Dimetronic is part of the consortium that has been awarded by the Spanish Administrator of Railway Infrastructures (ADIF) a contract for the signalling, fixed telecommunications network, centralised traffic control (CTC), train protection and security systems ERTMS (European Rail Traffic Management System) for the Orense-Santiago de Compostela section of the North-Northwest high-speed railway corridor.

Invensys Rail Dimetronic will be responsible for the supply of the interlocking systems, FS 3000 track circuits, control traffic centre (CTC), ASFA (Announcement of Signals and Automatic Braking) system, LED signalling, as well as part of the power supply systems and part of the technical buildings.

The contract is worth a total of € 136 million and the project has an implementation deadline of 16 months.

First high speed railway section in Galicia

The Orense-Santiago de Compostela section is part of the Madrid-Galicia high-speed line and it will be the first railway section of this kind in the region of Galicia.

This section, with 87.5 km in length, is included in the North-Northwest high-speed corridor and it will link the Northwest of the Iberian Peninsula with Madrid, providing also connection with the Atlantic Axis.

Once in service, travel distance between both cities will be reduced by almost 40 km, from the current 126 to 87.5 km. Likewise, travel time will be reduced by 70%, from current 90 minutes to 30 minutes, which will also significantly reduce connection time between Madrid and Galicia.

Leaders in railway signalling and control

This new contract acknowledges Invensys Rail Dimetronic’s extensive experience in the Iberian railway sector, both in the planning and execution of signalling and train control projects for high-speed lines.

This leadership position is backed by the success of the high-speed lines connecting Madrid-Valladolid, Madrid-Toledo, Córdoba-Málaga and Lérida-Barcelona. At present, Invensys Rail Dimetronic is also providing signalling and train control for the Madrid-Valencia and Barcelona-Figueras high-speed lines.
