Harmonised Community transport policies are essential in a European Union of 25 countries. The ability to circulate from one Member State to another using interoperable driving systems is becoming a fundamental requirement.
Achieving a single automatic driving system is crucial for the optimisation of rail transport efficiency on a European scale. In order to produce such a system, it is necessary to establish common standards for onboard systems, the connection/communications interfaces between modules and the development of common procedures. In order to fulfil these requirements the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) has been developed and it is now being deployed across Europe.
FUTUR 1300 ERTMS Level 1
Within the range of the FUTUR system, FUTUR 1300 is the LEVEL 1 Invensys system which provides great performance for operation and maintenance features for railway administrations throughout Europe.
Level 1 ERTMS/ETCS is a complete Automatic Train Protection system on its own – based in the punctual information sent to the train when passing over the system’s balises. Telegrams containing the relevant Movement Authority are sent to each balise from its associated Line Equipment Unit LEU.
To define the Movement Authority the LEUs need to analyse the status of the field elements – whether centralized through a link with the interlocking or getting direct fail-safe inputs from points and wayside signals.
FUTUR 2500 ERTMS Level 2
Within the range of the FUTUR system, FUTUR 2500 is the LEVEL 2 Invensys system which provides great performance for operation and enhanced maintenance features for railway administrations throughout Europe.
The FUTUR 2500 system is a complete train protection system based in the interchange of bi-directional continuous information with the train through the use of GSM-R Euro-radio.
According to the infrastructure state and the situation of the trains in the line, the Radio Block Centre (RBC) calculates the Limit of Movement Authority (LMA) and sends it along with the track data to each train. This information is generated by the RBC using each train’s localization as given by the relevant interlocking. The train’s position is given by the GSM-R as well as through track occupancy.
Within the range of FUTUR products, FUTUR 3000 is the onboard Invensys system that is constructed on the basis of the European Train Control System (ETCS) specifications, which provides high degrees of both efficiency and safety to railway operators throughout the entire world.
The ETCS FUTUR 3000 onboard system is a fundamental element of the FUTUR product range. The implementation of the ETCS functions described in the Unisig specifications, make this product an ideal system for interoperable driving through the various states that have decided on adopting ERTMS.
FUTUR 3000 combines the various functionalities that are required for the successive levels of ETCS application on the same hardware platform. Moreover, the migration from one level to another does not require any change in hardware, only a modification of the system application software.
