The Brazilian Trensurb (Empresa de Trens Urbanos de Porto Alegre S.A.) awarded the project to the consortium Novavia, which trusted in Invensys Rail Dimetronic for the north extension of line 1 signalling, which will join the stations of São Leopoldo and Novo Hamburgo.

The project includes the construction and signalling of four new stations: Rio dos Sinos, Santos Dumont, FENAC and Novo Hamburgo, a section of almost 10 Km of extension.

Invensys Rail Dimetronic is providing two WESTRACE electronic interlockings, LED signals, track circuits with speed codes, communications and cables and power supply systems.

The current Porto Alegre Metro line 1 has an extension of almost 34 Km of double electrified track and it provides service between the municipalities of Porto Alegre, Canoas, Esteio, Sapucaia do Sul and Sao Leopoldo, a region with more than three million inhabitants.

Porto Alegre is the Rio Grande do Sul state’s capital and it has a population of one million and a half people. This project for the metro extension is one of the priorities of the Rio Grande do Sul Government, facing to the Brazil World Cup 2014.
