Signalling for the High Speed Line Ourense-Santiago de Compostela

The high speed line Ourense-Santiago de Compostela-A Coruña, in commercial service since December 11th, is part or the future high speed line that will link Madrid with Galicia and it is equipped with railway signalling and control systems from Invensys Rail Dimetronic, which guarantee maximum safety level in the line, passengers, rolling stock and railway installations.

Invensys Rail Dimetronic is leader of the consortium that has been awarded the contract for the signalling, fixed telecommunications network, centralised traffic control (CTC), train protection and security systems for the Ourense-Santiago de Compostela section in May 2010.

Invensys Rail Dimetronic has been responsible for the supply of the interlocking systems, FS3000track circuits, control traffic centre (CTC), ASFA (Announcement of Signals and Automatic Braking) system, as well as part of the power supply systems and part of the technical buildings. In addition, the company has adapted the signalling and communications installations of the Ourense-Santiago de Compostela line to guarantee the electromagnetic compatibility with the new high speed line access. Dimetronic will be in charge of the maintenance for, at least, the next 3 years.

The commissioning of the Ourense-Santiago de Compostela line offers advantages as the reduction of the distance between both cities in almost 40 kilometers, from the current 126 to 87,5. Also, the travelling time between Ourense and Santiago de Compostela is reduced in almost one hour, from 90 to 38 minutes, and time to travel between Ourense to A Coruña is reduced by 67 minutes, from two hours to one hour and eight minutes.

Dimetronic has also participated in the previous adaptation projects required to implant the high speed line in the conventional track section between Santiago de Compostela and A Coruña.

This corridor also allows the connection with other of the main Galician cities through the High Speed Atlantic Axle, which will also link with Portugal. Dimetronic has also participated in most of the railway signalling and control projects in this corridor.
