TCDD, the Turkish State Railways, awarded Invensys Rail Dimetronic the contract to design, supply, install, test and commission the Signalling, Automatic Train Protection and Telecommunications systems for the Bandirma-Menemen line in the Turkish railway network.

TCDD has received the bids from seven groups of companies, being the winner offer the one submitted by Invensys Rail Dimetronic in joint venture with the Turkish civil construction company Fermak.

The proposed system includes the Invensys Rail Dimetronic ERTMS (European Railway Traffic Management System) FUTUR Level 1 and 2 systems, both on board and trackside, automatic train stop system, WESTRACE electronic interlockings, FS3000 jointless track circuits, point machines, point heaters, level crossings, wayside signals, GSM-R radio system, voice and fixed data communications and a Centralized Control Traffic (CTC) RAIL 9000 to be located in Balikesir.

FUTUR ERTMS Level 2 will be the main operation system and FUTUR ERTMS Level 1 will operate as fall-back system, so in case of any failure of both ERTMS systems, the railway traffic will be protected with the automatic train stop systems.

The Bandirma-Balikesir-Manisa-Menemen line, with 310 km in length, is the main link between the Marmara and the Mediterranean seas.

Experience of Invensys Rail Dimetronic in Turkey

Invensys Rail Dimetronic has a strong commitment with the Turkish railway market, as the country is developing an ambitious modernization plan for its infrastructure with the aim of being a communications hub between Europe, Middle East and Asia.

Currently, Invensys Rail Dimetronic is delivering two projects for the Turkish railway market.  On the one hand, the company has delivered the signalling and the ERTMS Level 1 for TCDD in the Ankara-Konya High Speed Line and currently is deploying the upgrade to Level 2 and associated systems.

In addition, Invensys Rail Dimetronic has recently been selected by DLH, the Turkish Directorate of Railways, Harbours and Airports Construction, to provide railway signalling and control technologies for the Gebze-Halkali Commuter Rail line, known as the CR3 Marmaray Project, the only line in the world to be equipped with both ERTMS and CBTC systems.

Invensys Rail Dimetronic will undertake the project in a joint venture with the Spanish civil construction company OHL. The contract includes the design, supply, tests and commissioning of the FUTUR 1300 Level 1 ERTMS and SIRIUS CBTC trackside equipment; a new signalling system including WESTRACE electronic interlocking; train detection systems (jointless track circuits and axle counters); LED wayside signals; CTCRAIL 9000 and the Telecommunication and SCADA systems for the entire project. The contract also includes maintenance for two years with an option to extend it to a further five years.
